Auto-ID fits perfectly in with Sun Microsystems' vision. For many
years, Sun's philosophy was and still is "The Network is the Computer."
With an Auto-ID infrastructure in place, the company will have an
"internet of things." Already in 1999, Bill Joy, Chief Scientist
at Sun Microsystems, was quoted in Forbes Magazine, "Every single
object manufactured will be created with a wireless address and
will carry an identifier." Sun has a long history and record in
successful involvement with industry standards, and has been a sponsor
of the Auto-ID Center since June 2000. In addition, through Dirk
Heyman, Sun chairs the Technology Board of the Auto-ID Center and
is actively involved in Auto-ID field pilots.
At this Pub Talk, come hear Mr. Markus Weber discuss Sun's initiatives
at the iForce Solution Center and their support of the Auto-ID Center.
ABOUT MARKUS WEBER
Markus Weber is an Application Engineer with Sun Microsystems'
iForce Solution Center. He has been working at Sun's iForce Solution
Center in Menlo Park, California, for 3 1/2 years. After focusing
on such different areas like supply chain management applications,
online trade exchanges, and retail industry-specific applications,
he has turned his attention to Auto-ID projects for the last eight
months, always keeping in mind the customer-centric nature of Sun's
iForce Solution Centers. Before joining Sun, Mr. Weber was a DBA
for Hewlett-Packard in Grenoble, France, and a database programmer
for Ascom Autelca in Berne, Switzerland.
ABOUT SUN MICROSYSTEMS'S iFORCE SOLUTION
CENTER
Sun Microsystems' global network of iForce Centers (http://
www.sun.com/executives/iforce/centers/) includes three types
of centers: Sun-led, partner-led, and software product-focused.
This network of centers lets you invest in testing your concept
before purchasing the final complete solution. iForce Centers are
designed to help Sun's customers make informed investment decisions,
and build and test prototype solutions before going to market.
Each center, whether led by Sun, world-class system integrators,
or top caliber software vendors, represents a brain trust of knowledge,
all in one location. These resources work with you to help minimize
the risks and costs associated with architecting, developing, and
deploying your solution. The centers provide assessments, solution
demonstrations, proof-of-concepts, and sizing and tuning.
