SOLUTIONS: The IBM Technical Developer Conference
An IBM Technical Developer Event!
Registration Information Below.
Location: Moscone Center, San Francisco.

IBM, an Executive Sponsor of the Center, is providing those associated with the Center the opportunity to attend its "Solutions" Technical Developer Conference, being held in San Francisco this August. Registration information is below.

CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION

For the past two years, "Solutions" has established a reputation to be the place to meet, learn and test-drive the latest advances in IBM's open architecture and integrated solutions. Now, in its third year and in a new location (Moscone Center, San Francisco!), the conference has grown to become IBM's largest gathering of developers!

The conference is designed for both corporate "build to use" developers and Software firm developers who "build to sell." In the technical sessions and in the exhibit hall, IBM products and technologies are integrated with those of our Business Partners. Solutions arm you with answers to issues surrounding the future of enterprise infrastructure, integration, open standards, and interoperability.

Come meet with those leading this charge and learn about technical solutions that use Linux, XML, Java(tm), Web Services, and wireless technologies.

Get in-depth training in hands-on labs covering XML/XSL, EJBs, JSPs, Servlets, and more. Choose from over 240 technical elective sessions.

At this year's conference, you will see a practical showcase of IBM's emerging technologies in a car, code named "alphaWorks TechMobile." The alphaWorks TechMobile is powered by TSpaces, ViaVoice(tm), and Bluetooth(tm) platforms.

REGISTRATION & FURTHER INFORMATION

Registration fee for the conference is $265 per person. At the conference Web site, you can register as well as browse the session abstracts and schedules using the Agenda Builder. Plan to take one (or more) of 135 IBM Professional Certification Tests at a discount price.

"User Experience: Well Worth the Investment"
By Mr. Steve Gilmore, Western Region Creative Director, Plural, Inc.
Open to the Public. No fee. 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Pub Talk at 6:00 p.m.

Every user has an experience when they interact with an organization's online offering. These user experiences are directly related to the organization's success and profitability. To build long-term, profitable relationships it is critical to ensure that the user experience is positive and that the user derives the most value from the interaction. Though measured differently, the goal of profitable relationships applies equally well to lifetime value of customers and partners as it does to employee productivity. Businesses that assess, architect, and measure the real experiences of users will create better value for those users and demonstrate clear dominance over their competitors - leading directly to increased profits.

ABOUT STEVE GILMORE

Steve Gilmore's role at Plural centers on user experience and usability solutions for Fortune 1000 clients, specifically defining services, leading business development, and overseeing delivery. IBM Almaden Research Center
Open to the Public. No fee. 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Pub Talk at 6:00 p.m.

The IBM Almaden Research Center has developed IBM CueVideo, which provides video and speech indexing, retrieval and advanced browsing. It is a server-client architecture, integrated with multimedia streaming and advanced video browsing. Its speech retrieval capability is not only speech recognition (ViaVoice), but also combines phonetic retrieval of out-of-vocabulary words, sound-like words, and words missed by the speech recognition. The people and markets that are probably interested in this include Web content creators, broadcast news, remote education, media content consumers in various industries.

The Cue Video team, led by Dr. Arnon Amir, is looking for partnerships with consulting and services companies that would integrate CueVideo into their content management and knowledge management solutions. In addition, a CueVideo Toolkit is available for evaluation and licensing via Alphaworks(IBM's prototyping Web site) or directly from Dr. Amir's team.
