ABOUT THURINGIA, GERMANY

The state of Thuringia (2.5 million people and one of the formerly five East German states) seeks to strengthen its profile as an attractive business location for the IT industry.  Thuringia's impressive human capital includes a talented and motivated work force, a network of renowned R&D facilities, and universities such as Jena University and Ilmenau University of Technology. Thuringia is located in the center of Europe and has made substantial technology investments over the last 10 years (i.e., dense ISDN-networks, etc.). This infrastructure has "produced" clusters of start-ups in the Jena region and around its capital, the city of Erfurt. Intershop Communications and Jenoptik represent two major success start-ups.
